Traquair 2010 330ml, 10% - Scotland


Pours deep brown with a thin head.

Malts, caramel, nuts, dark fruits and hops in the aroma.

The flavor pretty much reflects the aroma. You can barely notice the high ABV.

Mohawk Barley Wine 330ml, 10.5% - Sweden


Deep copper appearance with a short tan head.

Very hoppy aroma. Malty with hints of syrup.

Malty and hoppy flavor. Dark fruits, bread and hints of caramel.

Low carbonation.

Devine Rebel 330ml, 13.8% - Scotland


Pours deep red with a one finger tan head.

Malty, nutty, boozy and sweet aroma.

Slightly toasted malts, bitter hops, tobacco, dark fruits and caramel in the flavor.

Alvinne Melchior 330ml, 11% - Belgium


Pours deep orange with a rocky head. Tons of settlement in the glass.

Exotic fruits, strawberries, syrup, malts and yeast in the aroma.

Sweet flavor. Belgian candi sugar, yeast, malts, hops and pepper.

Lovely beer!

J.W. Lees Vintage Harvest Ale 275ml, 11.5% - USA


Pours deep copper with a short tan head. Lots of settlement.

Malts, caramel, berries and dark fruits in the aroma.

Wow! What an unexpected taste. Heavily smoked with burned malts, coal, caramel, brown sugar and dark fruits.

Nils Oscar Barley Wine 2007 330ml, 9.5% - Sweden


pours murky copper with a short white off head.

Malts, barley, caramel and dark fruits in the aroma.

The flavor reflects the aroma.

Both are week and pale. I thought that this would develop after three years!

Bötet Barley Wine 250ml, 9.1% - Sweden


Poured slightly foggy red with a small creamy tan head.

What a pleasant aroma. Very sweet and warm. Lot's of dark fruits. Figs, raisins, plums... It has caramel, brown sugar and maple syrup.

The flavor is quite sweet as well. Syrup, caramel, sugar, malts and dark fruits. Little boozyness towards the end, but rarely noticeable.

Amazingly good beer, keeps you warm inside.

Horn Dog Barley Wine Style Ale 355ml, 10.2% - USA


Dark amber color with no head.

Sweet malty aroma, dried fruits and brown sugar.

Very sweet taste, but pleasant at the same time. Caramelized malts, brown sugar, plums, raisins, together with small hints of caramel.

High ABV is rarely noticeable.

Old Tom 330ml, 8.5% - England


Very dark brown, almost black color. Cappuccino thick head, with some lacing around the glass.

Lovely smell, full of fruits, raisins and toffee.

Very sweet and malty flavor. Together with dark fruits, raisins, toffee, coffee and a gentle touch of alcohol.

I drank this unchilled, as advised on the bottle. Creamy beer which keeps you warm inside. High abv is rarely noticeable.
